Areola Reduction

Areola reduction surgery can be done if you are unhappy with the size or shape of your areolas. This could either appear since you were born or after you had given birth. The procedure is quick, simple and has no effect on mothers who have to breast feed their babies.

Surgical Procedures

First the surgery is performed under local anesthesia around the nipple and the areola area. The common technique is to remove some of the nipple, it could be either the outer part of the areola or the inner part depending on individual person. Finally, the surgeon will stitch to close the incision.


Post-Operative Care

  1. The suture removal time is 5 days after the surgery which the follow-up appointment will be made the day of the surgery.

  2. If there is an excess of bleeding, you should contact the surgeon

  3. You should wear the special surgical bra places over your breasts after the surgery at all times for the first few days.

  4. One day after the dressing is removed, anti-inflammatory cream should be applied, as well as cleaning the incision twice a day, one in the morning and one in the evening.

  5. The scar around the areola will have a pleat appearance in the early period after the operation but they will fade eventually.

  6. You should avoid the suture of getting wet until the stitches is removed.

  7. One week after the stitch removal, scar removal cream should be used.
