Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)

Otoplasty is also known as cosmetic ear surgery. It is procedure to improve the shape, position or proportion of the ear by setting prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. Suitable candidate for otoplasty is for people who has ear stick out too far from their head or whose ear are large in proportion to their head. The surgery can be done at any age after the ears have reached their full size, usually after age of 6 through adulthood.

Surgical Procedures

  1. The surgery will be performed under local anesthesia to relieve anxiety.

  2. Small incision is made at the back of the ear to expose the ear cartilage.

  3. Excess cartilage and skin is removed, then the surgeon will fold the cartilage into the proper position and secure it with stitches. The procedure typically takes about an hour.

Post-Operative Care

  1. After the operation, your ears will be covered in bandages for protection and support. About 2 days after, you are allowed to remove the bandages and apply ointment prescribe by the doctor.

  2. You are allowed to wash your hair 2-3 days after the surgery.

  3. After 10-14 days, you will have an appointment with the surgeon to remove the stitches.

  4. Drinking and smoking are banned 1 weeks before and after the surgery.
